HOW IT STARTED

Thomas McCormick immigrated from Ireland to New York in 1886.  For two years he worked his way across the country to the west coast and eventually landed in Ventura County in 1888.  During his travels he admired many different architectural styles of the various estates and ranches where he worked. He continued to work as a ranch manager for some of the large land owners in Ventura County where he established himself as a successful businessman.  Eventually Thomas married Elizabeth McGrath, the daughter of one of his clients, and they began to raise a family and develop a ranch of their own…The Home Ranch. 
Thomas hired Albert C. Martin Sr., one of Southern California’s most prominent architects famous for his work on the Million Dollar Theatre in Los Angeles, the Ventura County Courthouse and the LA City Hall to design a home inspired by his life’s experiences. This beautiful and exceptionally rare colonial style home was completed in 1918.

The Home Ranch has been a cornerstone in the McCormick family for more than a century. Since 1918, four generations of McCormicks have raised their families on the “Home Ranch,” each adding their own traditions & celebrations. The sprawling and ever-blooming gardens surrounding the house are nestled within a backdrop of towering heritage trees as old as the house. These gardens have been the private setting for over a hundred years of celebrations for relatives and friends. In the late 1990’s; after Sally McCormick married off the last of her children at the ranch; she decided to turn the tradition of celebrating at the ranch into a business and she began the venue business McCormick Home Ranch. 
The Home Ranch now has evolved into a sought-after venue that provides endless opportunities where couples, families, professional associations, cinematographers and creatives can bring their visions to life in this one of a kind environment. The lively gardens and the quiet beauty of the property create an open setting where guests can smile, laugh, and forget the world that exists beyond the tree line. This is a place shaped by generations of love, and we're grateful to have the opportunity to open our home and host your next event. 

THE HOME RANCH TODAY 

As of 2026 year we are proud to celebrate a milestone of our own, 28 years in business. Today, the ranch continues to be a family home and it is still owned and managed by the McCormick family. We welcome you to the Home Ranch. Our mission is simple: we want your time here to feel easy, warm and genuine, and true to you. 
The open feel of the site offers the ability to create a truly unique celebration inspired by your life’s experiences and we can assist you achieve your vision. The McCormick Home Ranch is a proud partner of Red Door Events, founded and run by Rebecca “Becky” McCormick. Throughout the booking process Red Door provides a white glove service for event packages and a la carte hosting needs. Red Door Events offers on site rentals, event styling, item and vendor sourcing, and set up for any client desiring additional support. The team is here to bring your vision to life with ease.
